Captain Garry McKechnie 07/03/06 One Tree Island

10.20am One Tree Island. We arrive after steaming all night. Conditions have been calm. Our first dive is carried out in near perfect conditions. See web entries from scientists and trainees regarding the days events and the results. After completing the work at One Tree we travel north about 12 miles to Wreck Island where our team makes a second dive for the day. We are fortunate to be able to dive in these areas which are restricted to accredited vessels for the purposes of research.

Later on route to the Keppel Islands Paul catches a beautiful mackerel which is big enough to feed all 16 of us twice. Even the divers are fully satisfied and fall into bed as Pelican steams through the night bound for Humpy Island in the Keppel group. Ewan is on watch with me but shoulders most of the work. I have my head down writing this, secure in the knowledge that Ewan's eyes are far better than mine. It is raining lightly.
