PELICAN LAUNCH 6pm-7:30pm Thursday 11th December 2003
Finally after 5 years, 30,000 plus labour hours, a change of government,
numerous wars, an Olympic games, SARS and numerous royal scandals,
our sailing vessel Pelican i was ready to drop into the water and she
iooked absolutely amazing.
Pelican is a 64 foot ocean going sailing catamaran we have been building for a long time down in a deserted wharfies shed on the docks in Melbourne. We intend to use her for a range of scientific, environmental and social projects. She is nearing completion, and will soon take to the water for the first time, and once in the water her mast and rigging will be installed and she will sail on her maiden voyage most likely in January 2004.
If you would like to join us for a celebration of this huge project, please do come along and support Garry and the whole Team for this momentous occasion. Andrew Denton has agreed to be the Patron of the Project and together with the Team will be smashing bottles over the two hulls to Launch her.
Join us afterwards in the now empty shed where she was built for a band and music afterwards to celebrate. BYO plate and drinks to share. Thank you to Docklands now VicUrban who gave us the use of this shed free of charge for 5 years.
